OCEAN THUNDER Europe, an extension of OCEAN THUNDER Australia, will take place:

September 6^th, 2008, at Grande Plage, BIARRITZ.

OCEAN THUNDER is:

• A semi-professional Surf Rowing series reserved for a select number of international teams; that

• Brings together the best men and women teams from Australia to face the best European teams before tens of thousands of spectators and television viewers; PLUS

• Event within an Event, the European Open Championship, the day before OT on Friday, 5^th September, giving our sponsors local exposure for two days

This additional adrenaline element to the competition

has been designed specially to be spectacular and dynamic!

3 to 4 minutes of racing, entirely visible from the beach!

Each team leaves the beach, battling into the waves, before making a 180 degree turn to row and/or surf back to the shore, finishing with a boat member sprinting across the sand to touch a flag and validate the team’s arrival.

The boats draw lots to decide in which of the six lanes they will race. The Boat manager and the Team Boat will appear on the equipment and on T-shirts for the benefit of the sponsors.

50 to 70 elite teams, men and women, European and Australian, of which :

• 25 Australian men and women teams face the best European teams, amongst which are;

• 2 confirmed pre-Olympic teams : the Dutch and French national coxless fours (pictured).

• 12 to 15 anticipated English teams + boats composed of pre-Olympic athletes from various countries

• The biggest names in Australian Surf Boat rowing which include illustrious Olympic and/or world medalists!

• Julien Despres, a pre-Olympic rower, guarantees to promote of OT on behalf of the French team and the World Champion team 2007

THE VENUE

• Surf Rowing for the first time on the prestigious Biarritz beach, La Grande Plage

• The full backing of Biarritz town to OT – BIARRTIZ 2008 – making 200m of public beach available for the two days of the competition,

• The Promenade with cafés and shops which, at the start of September, attract numerous holidaymakers and delegates

• The Terrace of the Municipal Casino which overlooks the Grande Plage and the Promenade, welcoming officials, VIPs, the hustle and bustle of the town

• A delegates cocktail reception and closing evening at the Biarritz casino
