Austinmer & Queenscliff Thunder to the Top |
|
Jack Patison’s defending series champions, Ego Platinum Austinmer, are sitting pretty on top of the Evive Ocean Thunder Pro Surf Boat Series pointscore after a spectacular round two at Dee Why on Saturday.
Austinmer (pictured left) finished fourth in the double-race final behind Skilled Avoca, Your Style North Curl Curl and e-Go Pacific Palms.
But consistency is the name of the game and after the smaller conditions of round one and the testing two-metre surf which greeted the crews in round two on Saturday, the “Austi” boys are on top.
Austinmer have amassed 44 points and have opened up a five-point buffer on Skilled Services Avoca Beach (39), PCL Panz Jan Juc (38), Your Style North Curl (37), Ozwide Loans Bulli (35) and Australian champions Pure Blonde North Cottesloe and e-Go Pacific Palms both on 34 with Reilly & Sons Food Services Warriewood (33).
The big improver on Saturday was the Universal Resort Living/Banana Boat Bronte crew who have moved from last place after the opening round, to finish fifth in the final – adding 20 points to their lone point from round one.
In the women’s event, defending champions, Manly-Warringah Credit Union Queenscliff (Matt Hamilton) have opened up a four-point series lead after their second place finish to NR Perry Surf Boats Currumbin on Saturday.
Manly Aluminium Windows South Curl Curl, Red Steer Hotel Motel Bilgola and NR Perry Currumbin are all locked on 36 points in second place.
Round three of the Evive Ocean Thunder Pro Surf Boat Series will be conducted at Dee Why on January 19 with the final also at Dee Why on February 16.
