The 2009/2010 ATIVO Ocean Thunder culminated today (13th February, 2010) in an exciting final round in small, clean one metre waves at Sydney's Dee Why beach.

Reilly & Sons Food Services - Bungan Beach - Men's Winners Round 4In the opening five rounds of the Men's event a countback was needed to seperate ATIVO B, Hogs Breath Cafe, Viatek and ATIVO A who all finished with eighteen points seeding themselves straight into the quarter finals. A further twelve crews then battled through a series of elimination races which eventuated in a six boat final contested by series leader Hogs Breath Cafe, FGI, Ettamogah Mob, Reilly & Sons Food Services, Viatek & ATIVO B.

An epic final saw Reilly & Sons Food Services go to an early leaded that was not threatened until the final lengths of the race following a late charge from Hogs Breath Cafe and ATIVO B. Reilly & Sons Food Services became the third event winner for the year ahead of ATIVO B and Hogs Breath Cafe.

Hogs Breath Cafe, by making the final guaranteed themselves a series win in front of Reilly & Sons Food Services and Ettamogah Mob.

The Women's preliminary races saw Team Navy return to ominous form with three wins and a second from their preliminary races, Ettamogah Mob matched the highly fancied Team Navy with the same results.

Team Navy - South Curl Curl - Women's Winners Round 4 & Overall PointscoreThe Women's final consisted of six crews being Premier Building Group, DKG, Ettamogah Mob, Team Navy, St Kilda and Southern Fasteners. Team Navy continued their dominance of the series with another awesome display of surf rowing taking out the day ahead of Premier Building Group and DKG.

Team Navy have completed the first ever series clean sweep winning all four events for the season.

The Elite Young Guns events were eagerly raced by the future of the sport with Batemans Bay taking out the under 23 Men from Torquay and Newport. The under 23 Women's event was won by Woolamai from Broulee and Helensburgh. The epic under 19 final resulted with Dixon Park in first place from Piha (NZ) and Manly.

Hog's Fresh Breath
Mona Vale - Hog's Breath Cafe - Men's winners - Round 3Event Three of this years ATIVO Ocean Thunder series has been run and won on Saturday 16th January in glorious Sydney sunshine with a testing two and at times three metre wave at Sydney's Dee Why Beach.
 
In the Men's five preliminary rounds, Ettamogah Mob Avoca and XXXX Gold Dee Why dominated  with four wins a piece, FGI Bilgola completing the morning a close third with two wins and three seconds.
 
The Women's four preliminary rounds saw for the first time, runaway series leader Team Navy South Curl Curl threatened, the standout series leader eventually settling for third place behind Southern Fasteners McMasters who finished the mornings four races  with three wins and DKG Elouera who remained consistent with two wins and two seconds.
 
A demanding series of elimination finals concluded with Ettamogah Mob Avoca , XXXX Gold Dee Why, One Life Batemans Bay,  Reilly & Sons Food Services Bungan Beach, Red Steer Hotel Elouera, Hogs Breath Cafe Mona Vale qualifying for the six boat Men's final.
 
Sth Curl Curl - Team Navy - Winner's Women - Round 3The hotly contested final saw Hogs Breath Cafe Mona Vale, One Life Batemans Bay & Red Steer Hotel Elouera break away from the field on large three metre wave with surfing skills enabling event one winner Hogs Breath Cafe Mona Vale to take the day's prize ahead of Red Steer Hotel Elouera & One Life Batemans Bay.
 
Coming in to the final event Hogs Breath Cafe Mona Vale hold a one point lead over One Life Batemans Bay in the cumulative pointscore.
 
The Women's final was contested by Westpac Jan Juc, Premier Building Mona Vale, Team Navy South Curl Curl, DKG Elouera, Southern Fasteners McMasters & Hairy Lemon Woolamai. Despite being heavily depleted by injury, Team Navy South Curl Curl dominated the final with a convincing win. Premier Building Group Mona Vale came in second in a wonderful day for the club with Westpac Jan Juc a popular third place.

Moruya Digs Deep for Event 2....

Event two of this years ATIVO Ocean Thunder was held today on Sydney's Dee Why beach in warm conditions in tiny surf.
 
In the Men's division of racing, FGI (Bilgola) dominated the five preliminary rounds with four wins and a second. Dial Before You Dig (Moruya) coming in a close second with four wins and a fourth, One Life (Batemans Bay) continued their outstanding form with three wins, a second and a third. Event one winners Hogs Breath Cafe (Mona Vale) qualified for the finals in eight position with XXXX Gold (Dee Why) who finished third in event one surprisingly eliminated. The five preliminary rounds in flat conditions were very tight, in one instance four one hundredth of second separated three crews.
 
Dial Before You Dig - MoruyaATIVO B (Austinmer), ATIVO A (Austinmer), Viatek (Dixon Park), One Life (Batemans Bay), Dial Before You Dig (Moruya) & Ettamogah Mob (Avoca) qualified for the final which consisted of a gut wrenching double race. Ettamogah Mob (Avoca) led the race from the outset, closely pursued by One Life (Batemans Bay) & Dial Before You Dig (Moruya). In an epic struggle that had the crowd on its feet right to the end, Dial Before You Dig (Moruya) surged to slim lead with about twenty metres to go, claiming victory from Ettamogah Mob (Avoca) & One Life (Batemans Bay).
 
In the Women's division, event one winners Team Navy (South Curl Curl) dominated the four preliminary rounds with four wins. Like their male counterparts FGI (Bilgola) showed their class with two wins and two seconds, Southern Fasteners (McMasters Beach) also finishing the preliminary rounds with two wins and two seconds.
 
Banana Boat (Bronte), Ettamogah Mob (Avoca), Southern Fasteners (McMasters Beach), Team Navy (South Curl Curl), FGI (Bilgola) & DKG (Elouera) qualified for the final which also consisted of a double race. Despite a late charge from Ettamogah Mob (Avoca), Team Navy (South Curl Curl) came away with victory in a tightly contested final. Team Navy (South Curl Curl) with two event wins now dominate the series point score.
 
The interstate feature race saw Men's crews representing South Australia, Queensland, Victoria & New South Wales compete against Team Navy (South Curl Curl) representing Women's surf rowers in a handicap event. To a huge ovation from onlookers Team Navy (South Curl Curl) took out the race against their male counterparts.
